Setting up your Business

Things to consider when establishing a new business:

  • Prepare a Business Plan - Business Entry Point.
  • Register your Business Name - Download an application form from the Queensland Office of Fair Trading website. You can register your business name for either one or three years.
  • Find information about registering your business name in Queensland with SmartLicence, a unique business licensing and information service that puts a stop to the red tape run-around and gives you the freedom to get on with business.
  • Register your domain name with your Internet service provider.
  • Apply for your Australian Business Number (ABN) - Apply online for your ABN and at the same time you can register for GST, PAYG withholding and TFN.
  • Get the relevant permits and licences for your business.
  • Protect your brand: register logos, trademarks - Intellectual Property.
  • Raise the capital, talk to your bank initially or mortgage broker.
  • Set up banking arrangements.
  • Look at your insurance needs - Business Insurance.
